Hi Folks- I’m Chris. I’ve been thinking about the best way to share my hiking and wilderness experiences for awhile now and I’ve come to a conclusion. I just can’t invite all of you to come with me, so I’m going to give this blogging thing a try. Obviously there isn’t much here yet, but you can expect that to change in the coming months. So who am I and what can you expect to see here? I’m a photographer and an educator, so you can expect plenty of photos! If you want to see more of my photography, check it out at chrisnailphoto.com. I’m a novice (very novice) fly fisherman so don’t be surprised to see the occasional post about my attempts at learning how to fool very wary fish with small fake bugs. I’m also a Search and Rescue Volunteer here in New Mexico. Sorry, you won’t be seeing any posts regarding the missions I go on, but you will likely see some of the territory I am sent into on occasion. Its not unusual for there to be brief periods of time while a SAR team is in the field waiting for instructions, which is when I will sometimes pull my camera out and document the territory we are surrounded by. Finally, in addition to the regular hikes I go on whenever I can, there is a much larger goal that I’ve been thinking about for a few years now which is to start hiking the Continental Divide Trail (CDT). I won’t the through hiking it, but instead will be opting to hike it in sections over the course of many years. The CDT, when completed, will be 3100 miles. Sometimes its easy to let life get in the way of things like hiking a big trail, so this blog is also a way to help hold myself accountable for actually working those sections of the CDT whenever I can, and then telling you about the trip!
